The Hichwa-Rachor database contains eleven original bassoons of Dominique Porthaux (c.1751-1839). He flourished in Paris from 1782 to p.1824 and is known to have made military instruments for the king of France (1785). In 1787 Etienne Ozi mentioned in his Méthode nouvelle et raisonnée pour le basson (on page 3) that Porteaux (sic) makes good bassoons. According to Denis Watel, a recognized authority on French woodwind instrument makers, Antony is not his middle name as usually listed, but his place of birth.
