The Hichwa-Rachor database contains one original bassoon of Gautrot-Marquet. This Gautrot-Marquet bassoon was made by Pierre Louis Gautrot (d 1882), who flourished in Paris from 1845 to 1882. Gautrot had an extensive instrument-making business; in 1870, he had a workforce of over 600 at two factories. In 1881, Gautrot purchased the bankrupt firm of Triébert. In 1883, the firm was purchased by Couesnon. Couesonon made “stencil” instruments for other instrument dealers. It is reported that Gautrot all metal bassoons. The trade name “Gautrot-Marquet” was used to designate the best quality instruments or 1er choix. The Gautrot firm is known as Sarrusophones’ first and most important maker.
