Ziegler, Johann Bassoons

The Hichwa-Rachor database contains two original bassoons of Johann Joseph Ziegler (Komorn, Hungary 1795—Wien 1858). He flourished in Wien from 1821 through 1858. Waterhouse reports that in 1845, Ziegler supplied military instruments to thirty Austrian regiments. In 1830, he experimented with metal clarinet mouthpieces and reeds. Ziegler worked on improving the bassoon and supplied clarinets and bassoons to the Wien Hoftheater. His flutes and clarinets were exported all over the world.
