The Hichwa-Rachor database contains two original bassoons of Clementi & Co. The firm was established in 1802 by the composer and pianist Muzio Clementi (1752-1832) and continued until 1831. The firm is primarily known for its pianos. There was a disastrous fire at the Clementi factory in March 1807. This was significant since every worker in the factory owned their own instrument making tools, which were lost in the fire. Each worker’s tools were equivalent to roughly the annual salary of a skilled journeyman at the time (£30-40).
